Hi, and welcome to the Barrel + BARC 24 Hour Challenge. My name is Jayse, I’m a volunteer and for the next twenty-four hours I’ll be posting updates here as the fun, and insanity, unfolds.
What is the Barrel + BARC 24 Hour Challenge? In short, it’s a suicide mission, a mission impossible, the very definition of Extreme Website Redesign! Barrel, a design and technology firm located here in New York, is redesigning BARC’s website. BARC (Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition) is a not-for-profit, no-kill, privately funded animal shelter based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that provides homes for animals and adoption and volunteer opportunities for humans.
So, where is the madness? The goal is to complete the entire redesign from planning, strategy, content, design, development, and production in twenty four consecutive hours. To give some perspective, a website redesign usually takes months, sometimes years.
Meet the Barrel crew, an intimate group of designers, developers and friends who thought this was a good idea
who were bribed by awesome bagel and coffee.
Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company
The client, BARC’s kennel supervisor Howard Wu
And, finally, our lead designer, developer and business strategist, reliably providing inspiration topped off with fur, slobber and cuddly goodness.
Nineteen humans, three canines, and twenty-two fresh eager brains linked to great, big, giant, bursting hearts. The challenge is on.
For those of you just scrolling to get to a video – here it is!
